A friend is due in a couple of months and asked me what I recommended her buying/registering for to get them started. I think there are the obvious things, (car seat, changing table, diaper pail etc), but here are a few ideas I gave her and her husband that are not always 1st in mind.
Waterproof Mattress Pad. Even if you don't co-sleep, you'll be doing a lot of cuddling and snuggling in your bed. Accidents happen - from the top and the bottom. Don't let a leaky diaper or spit up ruin your bed.
Cradler by Kiddopotamus. Keep their precious little heads from flopping about during those car naps with this adjustable head support. This is great for a toddler & young child as well. My boys are 3 & 6 and still use theirs.
Polar Babies Chammies. The softest and cuddliest cold weather jammies I've found.
And of course — our Smarts wall art!
And don't forget about the new mommy. Here are a few essentials that I think all new mom's deserve.
Massage and/or spa gift certificate. Even better if you can include babysitting to go with it.
House Cleaning. Either a do it yourself coupon or gift certificate.
Gift Certificate for a meal service or their families favorite take out restaurants. Or make a nice lasagna or soup for their freezer. Or a gift basket from the local grocer. We received a grocery bag from our preschool teacher of fresh ravioli, sauce, bread and dessert. It was such a great gift.
