If you haven't read the interview with Allison Krongard of WallCandy Arts - you should. She's a sweet gal and I should know - I've been collaborating with her over the past 4 months on a new baby product called Smarts. We've just launched and I am super excited about it.
A long time ago, when Liam (6) was just a wee one, I read an article about the new science around black and white patterns and how they helped stimulate vision and gross motor skill development. So I created some designs, printed them out and posted them by the changing table. He loved them. He loved them so much that when he'd get upset, we'd put him there. I'd end up hanging out with him on the changing table wiggling and goofing around for like half an hour.
(You can see his little legs moving in this photo. When I painted his room I had to put a temporary set up, he was so crazy about them.)
I made them again for Dillon when he was born, and shared with friends. I always wanted to do more with them, but wasn't sure what. And the down side of these was that they were made from paper, so I was always paranoid about giving my baby a paper cut. Then I thought of wall decals. I had used WallCandy Arts' Dottilcious a while back when decorating our preschool, and remembered that the company was owned by a mom. So I sent Allison an email. We talked. She liked the idea. We expanded on it a bit. We consulted with a few pediatricians and ophthalmologists, and a then few months later — here we are! Smarts! Wall art for babies.
I am so excited about these. I would love to hear what you think. You can buy Smarts on the WallCandy site and they will be in stores and on Amazon soon. We'll also be doing a give away for a set soon too, so stay tuned!
