If your guy is the brooding literary type, or if he just enjoys a good book, “B is for Beer” by Tom Robbins is a gift that will say “I understand you.” For my husband, it combines two of his great loves, reading and beer. And he has taken its double billing as “A children's book for grown-ups” and “A grown-up book for children” to heart and has been reading parts of it with our 6-year-old son. Since the main character in the book is a kindergartener too, our boy is enthralled. Plus, he knows the value of beer in his dad’s life and likes bonding over it.
The back cover describes the book as involving readers, “young and old, in a surprising, far-reaching investigation into the limits of reality, the transformative powers of children, and of course, the ultimate meaning of a tall, cold brewski.” It is no Ulysses but who has time for that with kids anyway.

I haven't had the pleasure to read this one, but I imagine it's along the same lines as "The Story of the Little Mole Who Went Search of Whodunit" by Werner Holzwarth and Wolf Erlbruch. It's good clean fun about animal feces, check it out.
